Welcome to Solstice Psychotherapy. Seeking therapeutic support can be a vulnerable experience, and I am glad you are here.

ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
Hello! My name is Emily and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
I am a queer, gender expansive and polyamorous individual. As a therapist, my main goal is to support you through the journey of finding your own identity and validating your lived experience.
I have been described as "eclectic" in my therapeutic approach. I use pieces of somatic work, internal family systems theory/ parts work, narrative therapy, queer theory, and experiential theory.
As a white provider, I am continuously doing the work to learn more about systemic racism and oppression, and unlearn my implicit racial biases. I may ask questions to better understand your specific experience as an individual, but will never ask my clients to educate me on these topics. As I continue growing as a provider, I welcome any feedback clients have for me.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, taking in the beautiful views of northern Minnesota, traveling to my favorite US cities and new destinations, and cuddling on the couch with my cats.
I love challenging social norms and creating new ways to embrace bold self expression.
EXPERIENCE
I started my mental health journey in 2019 at Ellie Mental Health as an in-home therapist and adult rehabilitation mental health services (ARMHS) provider. I served a variety of populations, though my focus was working with kids, adults, and multi-generational family units. Many of my clients faced systemic oppression due to race, disability, socio-economic status, and severe and persistent mental illness. Working with this client population changed the way I looked at access to mental health and the necessary changes within greater systems.
I transitioned to CARE Counseling in 2021 in order to work with a broader client population and started my focus on working with queer and ethically non-monogamous individuals and couples.
As of May 2022, I've been working for myself and contracting through Transcend Psychotherapy. This change has helped me focus on my own health and wellness, while being able to continue working with others.
